Detail of ‘Promises’, a large layered abstract painting by Andrea Koral in warm earth tones

Original abstract art · Clarkston, Michigan

Layers, texture, and a story underneath.

Andrea Koral paints layered, textured abstracts — acrylic, collage paper, limestone, coffee, sometimes a little dirt — with words and prayers written into the first layers. Made for real homes, one canvas at a time.

“Promises” · 48 × 72 · mixed media · floating walnut frame

Why she paints

“I want it to remind you of who you really are — and who you want to be.

How a painting begins

Every painting starts with words — sometimes yours.

Then the color comes, mixed muddy on the palette…

…layer over layer, texture over texture…

…until the words live underneath.

02 — The artist

Rich, muddy color and meaningful beginnings.

Andrea Koral is a fine artist from Clarkston, Michigan. Her paintings are built in layers — acrylic, collage paper, and every kind of pencil — with textures that come from unexpected places: limestone powder, coffee, even dirt.

She starts with bright color and mixes it muddy on the palette, hunting for the rich, complex hues you can’t get straight from the tube. The result is work with depth you can see and feel.

And underneath it all: sometimes she writes words or prayers into the first layers of a painting. Even covered up, they add intent — and connect the piece to the person it’s being made for.

Your words go in first

Andrea writes them into the underpainting, then builds the layers of color and texture over them. They stay in the piece, even where you can’t see them.
